Smoking around an infant increases their risk of SIDS. Avoid smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, or using illegal drugs around your baby. Do not allow others to smoke around your baby, either.
Regularly inspect your baby’s crib, car seat, highchair, pack-n-play, and swing for loose or broken parts. Check for recalls on these items and toys, which may have low-cost replacements available.
Follow your baby’s health care provider’s guidance on regular check-ups and vaccines. There are also many resources online to help you stay up to date.
